At Simply Made by Jodie, we believe comfort starts with clarity. That’s why we’re always happy to answer ingredient questions—especially when it comes to allergies. Recently, a customer reached out asking whether our products are safe for someone with a tree nut allergy. It’s a great question, and one we think deserves a thoughtful answer.

So… Is Coconut a Nut?
Not exactly! Here’s the scoop:
Coconuts are technically drupes, not true nuts. Botanically, they’re more like peaches than pecans.
Coconut oil is extracted from the fruit’s meat, not from a seed or kernel like most nut oils.
The FDA does not classify coconut as a tree nut for labeling purposes.
However, some people with tree nut allergies may still react to coconut, so it’s always best to check with your doctor if you’re unsure.
What We Use at Simply Made by Jodie
We formulate all our products with nut-free oils—no almond, walnut, or other tree nut oils here. That said, we do use coconut oil in most of our recipes because of its skin-loving benefits and creamy lather.
If you have a tree nut allergy and are concerned about coconut, we completely understand. We’re happy to help you find the right products or even explore custom options when possible.
Common Nut Oils to Watch For
If you’re navigating a nut allergy, here’s a list of oils that are typically derived from tree nuts:
Almond oil
Hazelnut oil
Walnut oil
Pecan oil
Macadamia nut oil
Pistachio oil
Cashew oil
Brazil nut oil
We do not use any of these in our products.
Always Read the Label
We list every ingredient on our product labels and website because your peace of mind matters. You’ll also find a disclaimer on each product page noting that:
“All Simply Made by Jodie products are crafted with nut-free oils. However, please note that coconut oil is used in some formulations. While coconut is not a tree nut, some individuals with tree nut allergies may still be sensitive to it.”
